52/365. Symbiosis

IMG_3611

"This isn't going to be going on the internet is it?" (children of bloggers know that there is never a safe moment)

"Possibly.....there's a pretty good chance..." (i had every intention of using it for today's 365)

"But my hair is still wet and I'm wearing that free t-shirt that came with the pizza the other night...." (I'm still getting a kick out of the fact the my 14 year old suddenly has standards. It seems like yesterday that he would spend all his spare money on Yu-Gi-Oh cards, now he uses it to buy clothes)

"True...but you're also supposed to be cleaning the bathroom right now and know perfectly well that I'm not going to make you leave your sister who is so clearly enjoying your company. We'll call it even."

And so he sat there for the good part of the afternoon, watching shows like Dora and Backyardigans and keeping his little sister entertained. I don't think the smile left her face the entire time he was there and as I tackled the chores that he had been assigned, that's all that mattered.

  1. What a sweet photo of your children together. It is funny what our kids say when we are taking a picture of them. I haven't heard it for a while, but my middle child would say the exact same thing about the photos appearing on FB. Adorable children! And the wet hair and free tshirt are awesome!

  3. I'm probably way out of the loop... but I thought messy, kind of wet looking hair was in now??? I think he came out on the good end of the trade, still looking quite handsome, spending time with an adoring sister and avoiding cleaning bathrooms. Hmm... how many more years until my oldest can take over that chore? :)

  5. I am very touched by your little Tatannya and your blog. Our 5 TH grandchild, Evan, was born with EHK, a very rare genetic skin disorder. It is a form of Ichthyosis. You can read about it on F.I.R.S.T. Only one out 300,000 children are born with it. They said it was a genetic misfire at conception.
As Evan's mimi, I can empathize with your fatigue, sorrow, and pain. Know matter how hard I try, I just can never understand the why.
You seem like a lovely person, remarkable mother, gifted writer, great photographer, and somehow, much like my own daughter, you somehow mangage to keep a sense of humor. The world is blessed with people like you and Tatyanna. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family. Patti, South Portland, Maine

  6. Patti,
I just did some reading on your grandson's condition and my heart goes out to your family. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Thank you also for your sweet comments, I truly appreciate them. Sometimes humour is the best way to get through the day. I can't change what is happening in my life, but I can chose how I react to it. Trying to keep things as upbeat as possible seems the best way to honour the indomitable spirit of my girl. Although there are days where the tears and sense of loss dominate, mostly our house is a pretty happy, normal place to be.
